SAYONARA Japan National Stadium FINAL FOR THE FUTURE : Reviving Legends
The National Athletic Stadium has served as a special stage where many great scenes of sports became history since its construction for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. After a half century, May 31st 2014, stadium packed with memorable moments came to its very end. This project initiated as showing gratitude to all of the athletes who have stood at this stadium, and also say farewell to the stadium for the upcoming reconstruction. The great historic footprints left at this stadium were brought to life. Within the last 15 minutes of the farewell ceremony, the legendary athletes stood once again at this stadium. Their footprints, recorded on video, were traced frame by frame, and validated with a mannequin, and transformed into a 3D motion data. Based on video and other recordings available, many of the great matches were reenacted on the field, through the use of AR, laser, and projection mapping.
